The Argentine soccer legend died this Wednesday at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack. He had recently left the hospital after an operation.
The legendary Argentine soccer player Diego Maradona dies, deceased at age 60, as announced on Wednesday by the Argentine soccer federation AFA. “The Argentine Soccer Association and its president Claudio Tapia feel a deep pain for the death of our legend, Diego Armando Maradona. You will always be in our hearts, ”the association tweeted. The Argentine government ordered a three-day state duel.
According to media reports, Maradona died of a heart attack at his home in Tigre, north of Buenos Aires. Therefore, the paramedics called in were unable to resuscitate him.
Weakened after surgery
More recently, Maradona had undergone surgery for a brain hemorrhage at a hospital near the Argentine capital and then spent a few days in the clinic. By his 60th birthday, October 30, he had already made a bad impression. Before the first game of his club Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata after Corona’s break, he briefly went to the stadium to receive congratulations and gifts. However, he had to be supported by two companions as he walked. Maradona followed the game from home on the advice of his doctor.
The Argentine soccer hero has repeatedly struggled with health problems. In 2000, doctors diagnosed a heart condition caused by cocaine use. This was followed by, among other things, withdrawal treatments and a stomach reduction.
Dream career
Maradona was considered one of the best footballers of all time. He grew up on the outskirts of Buenos Aires in poor condition and was discovered at an early age by the first division club Argentinos Juniors. He made his debut in the First Division at the age of 15, played for the first time in the Argentine National Team at 16 and was elected for the first time South American footballer of the year at 19.
With Argentina, Maradona became world champion in 1986, and in 1989 he won the UEFA Cup with Napoli. Off the field, however, he continued to make headlines due to his drug use and love affairs.
After the end of his professional career, Maradona coached the Argentine national team, Al-Fujairah SC of the United Arab Emirates and the Mexican second division club Dorados Sinaloa. Last year he finally took over the first division club Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata in his native Argentina.
