Pharmaceutical companies Regeneron and Sanofi have partially canceled a drug discovery study for patients with Covid-19.
American researchers found that arthritis medication Kevzara with the active ingredient sarilumab, which is used to treat rheumatic joint disorders, does not help against the coronavirus. In the clinical trial in approximately 450 patients with Covid-19, participants received either sarilumab or a placebo. Initial results show that sarilumab does not help patients who do not need ventilation. The study in seriously ill patients continues.
In February, a study was published in China in which 21 patients with Covid-19 were treated with an arthritis medication. The patient’s fever disappeared in a few days, and all other symptoms would have improved markedly. The doctors concluded that the Roche drug tocilizumab they used allows effective treatment in patients with a severe course of Covid 19.
