A wedding in Maine, the United States, has been linked to 176 crown infections and seven deaths. The deceased were not even present at the ceremony, CNN reported.
The wedding took place on August 7 with around 65 guests; indoor events with more than 50 people are not allowed in the state in question. The celebration sparked further outbreaks in a nursing home and a prison, both more than 100 miles from the wedding site. Therefore, the victims there included people who only came into contact with the wedding guests through second or third parties.
Numerous outbursts after the celebrations
US health authorities cite the case as an example of how quickly the virus can spread at celebrations and gatherings. In addition to wearing masks and social distancing, experts strongly recommend avoiding large gatherings.
Yet many Americans refuse to take the action – there have already been several outbreaks after the holidays, such as Memorial Day or the national holiday on July 4. There was also a corona outbreak at a motorcycle rally in Sturgis, South Dakota.
