  • Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) extends his lead in the Tour de France general classification.
  • Daniel Martinez (EF) wins the 13th stage of an escape group.
  • Marc Hirschi (Sunweb) has a quiet day after the feat in the 12th stage and for once he doesn’t stop.

The “Maillot jaune” is still in the hands of the Slovenians: Primoz Roglic set an example in the final ascent of the 13th stage of the Tour de France. Last year’s winner, Egan Bernal (Ineos), couldn’t keep up with the 30-year-old and lost 38 seconds. Only Tadej Pogacar (United Arab Emirates), along with Marc Hirschi, the shooting star of the tour, kept up the pace and is now in second place (+44 seconds) in the general classification. Bernal is already 59 seconds behind Roglic as third.

Martinez has the best legs

Two Germans and a Colombian fought for the stage victory. After Maximlian Schachmann (Bora-hansgrohe) was alone for a long time, Daniel Martínez (EF) and his teammate Lennard Kämna stopped him a few kilometers from the finish and shortly after brought him down. Martinez was the strongest rider in the sprint and secured the stage victory.

The French keep losing ground

After Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) had already buried his ambitions for the overall victory in the Pyrenees, two other Frenchmen lost a lot of time in the general classification on stage 13 to Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) and Romain Bardet (AG2R). After a crash, Bardet found his way back to the peloton early in the stage, but was unable to keep up with the high pace towards the end of the stage.

Mollema has to surrender

Dutchman Bauke Mollema, who had previously been in 13th overall position, had to abandon the 107th Tour de France. The 33-year-old rider suffered a fractured left wrist in his fall after about 100 km into stage 13.

So it goes

On Friday there is a varied stage for drivers. There are five climbs to overcome in the 194 kilometers from Clermont-Ferrand to Lyon. The main obstacle is the Col du Béal (2nd category), another highlight is the section of almost 15 kilometers that crosses the urban area of Lyon. Sprint specialist teams will strive to keep separatist groups at bay.
