11: 3 on 3.11. – Wil’s historic derby win remains a problem – sport

Every year FC Wil fans celebrate 11: 3 over FC St. Gallen on November 3. (11-3 in English spelling) 2002. Due to the corona pandemic, this year the party has to be celebrated in small groups. The Super League match with the highest score so far has not been forgotten.

Despite an early deficit, Wil was already 5-1 in the game after 33 minutes. “Then St. Gallen shortened to 3: 5. Fortunately, we then scored the sixth goal,” recalls then-Wiler midfielder Umberto Romano. “When I scored 7: 3 shortly after the break, we knew it was over.”

After 90 minutes it was 11: 3. Wiler’s scorers were:

Most of Bergholz’s 7,300 spectators, which had been expanded with additional stands, fell into ecstasy. According to Romano, the team itself celebrated it moderately: “It was so special that we had to let him establish something.”

Romano, who is now the assistant coach in Lausanne, is not regularly asked about the game. It still happens sporadically, for example recently by a caretaker in Lausanne. Or at home: “My boys watched the game with me on YouTube. These are beautiful moments. “
