The office also counted two new deaths. Ten people with Covid-19 were recently admitted to the hospital. It had not happened since April 1 that the numbers exceeded 1,000. On Tuesday, the BAG registered 700 new cases. On Monday, 1,548 new infections with the Sars-CoV-2 virus were reported over the weekend. On Friday the office counted 552 infections, on Thursday 550 and last Wednesday 411.

There have been a total of 57,709 laboratory-confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic. Since then, 4,951 people have had to be treated in hospital for a Covid 19 disease. The number of deaths related to Covid 19 disease amounted to 1,789.

In Switzerland and Liechtenstein, 1,439,599 tests have so far been performed on Sars-CoV-2, the causative agent of the respiratory disease Covid-19. Compared to Tuesday, 15,122 new tests were reported to the BAG. In 4.7 percent of all tests, the result was positive during the last months. For the past two weeks, the positivity rate was 5.3 percent.

Due to contact tracing, 3,662 people were in isolation and 9,194 people were in quarantine on Wednesday, according to the BAG. In addition, 18,391 returnees from countries at risk were in quarantine.
