On Tuesday, 6126 new coronavirus infections were reported to the Federal Office in one day. Last Wednesday it was 8616. This means that the number has increased considerably on a weekly basis. On Monday, the Federal Office reported 21,926 new infections during a 72-hour weekend.
So far, 2,080,775 tests have been performed for Sars-CoV-2, the causative agent of the respiratory disease Covid-19, in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. During the past two weeks, the result was positive in 26 percent of the tests. During the same period, 4,566.8 laboratory-confirmed coronavirus infections were reported per 100,000 residents.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been a total of 192,376 laboratory-confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, as further announced by the BAG. A total of 8,039 people had to be treated in hospital for Covid 19 disease. The number of related deaths rose to 2,275.
Due to contact tracing, according to the BAG, 35,424 people were in isolation on Wednesday and 35,570 contacts were in quarantine. In addition, 7,047 returnees from countries at risk were in quarantine.
