The Young Boys could have played for what seemed like an eternity that night in Geneva; the ball would hardly have rolled into the goal. Almost with the courage of desperation, substitute Nicolas Bürgy headed the post in the 86th minute. Despite the spirited final phase, the goalless draw remained.
Although the Berns remained undefeated in the youth championship, they lost points for the second time in the fourth round. And only: the yellow-black brought his last rehearsal for the group stage of the Europa League (on Thursday, the departure at home against AS Roma, live from 6:40 pm on SRF Zwei) their offense doesn’t start rolling as desired.
Servette and the danger of tripping
Especially in the first half, the appearance of the master was dominant, the increase in chances was obvious. But already in this phase, the traffic jams proved to be an Achilles heel: out of 15 agreements, the team of coach Gerardo Seoane did not achieve anything in the accounting.
From the 39th minute on, YB was able to try to outnumber itself for almost half an hour; there was no improvement in sight. After a double yellow for Vincent Sierro at 3 revolutions (!) The numerical balance on the pitch was restored in the 66th minute.
Servette turned out to be a tough nut to crack, not for the first time in the recent past. Last season, the then promoted player had booked 5 points against the capital. The Young Boys’ last victory in Geneva was on May 18, 2013.
Two newcomers, two different merits
At the Stade de Genève we saw two totally opposite debuts before a good 5,000 spectators:
- Fabian Rieder reached his baptism of fire in the professional team and was allowed to participate in the YB attack from the beginning. The only 18-year-old did his job well and was the focus of many standard situations, especially in the first half.
- Boubacar Fofana was not granted a bespoke debut. The Parisian, who only signed up 16 days ago, got too excited in his Super League debut, turned yellow at minute 30 and 39 and had to end his workday early.

On Thursday, YB will face a different caliber on the European stage with the best Italian team, AS Roma. In the Super League, FC Luzern awaits at home on October 25, Servette has to prove her worth in Sion at the same time.
