With a victory in Vaduz, YB could have extended its lead at the top of the table over the chasing St. Gallen and Basel to 11 points. Now, thanks to Espen’s loss to Lugano, there are still 9 points left.
However, it could have been worse for the Bernese. Milan Gajic missed with his free kick in the 83rd minute off the outside post. The Liechtensteiners’ goal would have been too good.
Nsames lack of moderation
Vaduz seemed brave from the start and confronted the master. However, the funniest moments were rare. So it was inglorious scenes that shaped the game:
- 39. Minute: Offside, Jean-Pierre Nsame knocks out Yannick Schmid and hits him on the neck. Referee Lukas Fähndrich sends the seven-time scorer off the court with red.
- 55. Minute: Meschack Elia gets to work in a duel against Linus Obexer. His arm also lands on the opponent’s face, but the action remains unauthorized.
Without top scorer Nsame and outnumbered, YB was practically harmless after the break. Substitutions for Jordan Siebatcheu, Marvin Spielmann and Felix Mambimbi didn’t change that. After all, long-injured Sandro Lauper made a brief appearance in the Super League for the first time since May 25, 2019.
Vaduz, who failed to score his own goals for the eighth time in his 15th game, is still behind in the table, but narrowed the gap with Lucerna to 5 points.
So it goes
The two teams will play again on Wednesday. As Vaduz travels to FC Zurich, the Young Boys host Lausanne in Bern (8:30 pm live on SRF Zwei).
