Super Nintendo World to open on February 4 with AR Mario Kart rollercoaster

Universal Studios Japan has announced the launch date for its long-awaited Nintendo-themed area. The Super Nintendo Land Zone will open on February 4, 2021 at the Osaka Theme Park.

It’s actually a little earlier than expected – last month Nintendo said the project would open in the spring. A themed cafe and merchant store has already opened in the large Universal Studios Japan Park.

USJ and Nintendo have also given details of what is sure to be one of the park’s main attractions: a Mario Kart-Preformed rollercoaster. It is housed inside the rebuilt Bowser Castle and uses AR and projection mapping technology, with riders donating Mario’s hat-shaped AR headsets:

Bloomberg got an early look at Super Nintendo World, including Mario Kart Ride, and note that the park is preparing to expand more simultaneously Donkey KongDepending field:

The car has steering wheels, and multiple vehicles can run with each other, but it may have climbed the rails on its own. U.S.J. According to No, you are not guaranteed to win the race – there is an element of throwing power-ups out of the item box, and the experience will be different each time you ride.

The park says it is working with health administration officials to ensure a safe environment for visitors and staff, and is currently operating at 0% capacity. COVID-19 cases have been on the rise in Osaka recently with a record count of 490 positive tests a day last week. Japan has largely avoided today’s strict lockdown measures, however, relying on contact tracing and near-universal mask-wear to reduce the impact of the epidemic.

The opening of Super Nintendo World will be closely watched as a model of the theme park industry, hit hard by the Covid-19. Last week, the Walt Disney Company announced plans to lay off 32,000 employees, mostly in its Parks division.
