With all the increased time at home, it is no surprise 55% said that cooking during COVID-19 was exhausting.
A new study of 2,000 Americans found, due to eating restrictions, that more people than ever ate at home and cooked an average of nine meals a week. But Americans may be looking for more variety in what they cook and eat, as results showed that the average respondent has cooked the same meal 28 times since the launch of COVID-19.

The survey, conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Sun Basket, asked respondents about their relationship with cooking and healthy eating because of the ongoing pandemic. While many respondents enjoy cooking, they sometimes wish it was less time consuming. Seven in 10 (69%) wish they could make a healthy dinner faster.
Nearly half of the respondents, or 46%, would prefer a meal with less prep work and 43% would like to spend less time planning their meals. With so much else on their minds, about 40% find themselves planning their meals every night to be a daunting task at times.

In a dream world, it would take the average person only 12 minutes to make a delicious, healthy meal – and many people are looking for dining alternatives on the nights when they do not have time to cook. Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, nearly two-thirds of respondents restricted their shopping trips. Of those who make fewer trips to the grocery store, 69% of Americans may sometimes feel limited when they cook due to lack of ingredients at home.
About 60% think they eat less healthily than ever before because they do not lack fresh ingredients. And due to the lack of fresh ingredients, and a bit of cake weight, one in two (53%) eats more takeout and delivery to get a little break from making dinner every night, while 55% admit to eating more unhealthily due to the increased takeout meals in their diet.

Even though they may not be able to get to the supermarket as often as before, respondents want to have control over their cooking and do not want to rely on deliveries (46%). But most (about 60%) have considered pre-ordering food, and just under half (about 40%) have ordered maid kits before.

In addition, just half have considered pre-made, heat and edible foods. When asked about the most appealing aspects of meal kits, the top three preferred convenience (47%), precisely measured ingredients (39%) and variety of available recipes were available (39%).
