Raleigh, NC – Students have extra time to get up to date on their faxes, says new executive action from the mayor.
The state will extend but not delay the state’s vaccination requirements due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Typically, evidence of immunizations and health assessments are required during the first 30 days of school. This year, students do not have to have their immunizations up to date until October.
The “grace period” for having immunization records begins October 1st. Students then have 30 days to obtain documentation of their vaccinations and health assessment at school. If they do not, they will be prevented from going to school.
All students who go to school – students who go home school, personally go to school or students who attend online school – must be up to date on their faxes by state law. This law applies to students enrolled in public, private or religious educational institutions.

In 2018, the immunization law was also amended in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.
“Whether your child goes back to school in person or virtually, please make sure they are protected from disease and death,” said North Carolina Pediatric Society president Susan Mims.
Families who are unable to pay for vaccines qualify for free immunizations through the federal Vaccines for Children program.
