In We are Season 4, Randall took the first step and went to therapy. The character agreed that she needed help after conversations with Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson). Then in episode 17, titled “After the Fire,” Randall realized that she still had some resentment towards Rebecca for keeping her biological father, William (Ron Cephas Jones), away from her.

Still, Randall decided not to face her mother. It was clear that the character still had scars from losing his two parents. Then, in the fourth season, Rebecca was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment. So Randall wanted to do everything in his power to keep his mother alive, including pressuring her to conduct a clinical trial.

“I will not revitalize what my mother did to me with William, I will not reopen that wound for her,” Randall told his therapist. “I understand that you think that dividing it will bring me some kind of peace. Maybe you are right. I do not know. But I have already lost three parents. I know losing my mother would break me. I can’t lose her, I will do anything to prevent that from happening. I’m going to do whatever it takes. “

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly published in May 2020, Brown joked We are Season 5. The actor shared the background story of Rebecca and Miguel (Jon Huertas) will be explored. Meanwhile, the ending stories, including the pregnancy of Kevin and Madison (Caitlin Thompson) and the adoption of Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Toby (Chris Sullivan), will reappear.

Brown also explained that the aftermath of the Randall and Kevin fight will be addressed when We are he returns for his fifth cycle. But that’s not all his character will face next season. He said:

There is something for Randall that I am very excited about. It has to do with this exploration of the past. Similarly, we went to Memphis [near the end of season 1] Finding out where he came from, his father’s family, etc., will be something very much like that. But with its own unique little twist. I don’t want to say too much, but it should be great.

Of course, Brown’s comments can do some We are Nervous fans. The season 1 episode titled “Memphis” broke viewers as it ended with William’s death. But is there any chance that Randall’s season 5 story will leave fans with happy tears this time? Perhaps.

Speaking to TVLine in June 2020, Brown expanded Randall’s arc on We are Season 5. The actor shared that his character will do a “self-examination” and hinted that fans may meet new characters linked to William.

“It is an excavation of Randall’s past, reconnected to the family,” Brown said. “So I think it will be a kind of soul searching.”

He then gave a real-life example, noting that his wife, Ryan Michelle Bathe, did not meet her biological father until she was 34 years old.

“We went to St. Louis, MO, where we’re both from,” Brown said. “She got this man’s number and called him. And he says, ‘Yes, I would love to meet you. We can meet at the mall … Now, I went and sat with them, and I was looking at a guy who looked like my wife, and I thought, what? “

He continued: “It really was a wonderful opportunity for my wife to meet this other side of her family that she didn’t even know about. She ended up pulling a sister out of all this. They are very close. And now she has a niece, and it’s really a lovely thing. “

But ultimately, it seems like Randall can meet new people in We are Season 5. And if we know anything about the NBC drama, it’s that even the smallest interaction will stretch out and impact lives on a larger scale. So we are excited to see what happens next.

“There is William and all the other people who are connected to William and others,” said Brown. “There are opportunities to meet people. That’s.”
