In the famous words of rapper Lil Wayne, “Athletes want to be rappers, rappers want to be athletes.” It’s a common sentiment between the two cultures, with members of each sometimes looking for ways to cross over to the other.
But what if rappers were actually athletes? More importantly, what if rappers were NFL quarterbacks? Look no further than the wonderful world of social media.
Friday, football fan @NFLMaliik started a thread of NFL quarterbacks as rappers and his reason for many were in place.
Rappers as NFL Quarterbacks

Take, for example, this comparison of DC Countryman Wale and New England Patriots Cam Newton.
Very talented and yet all too critical. pic.twitter.com/ExCoNYsREp

“Very talented and yet all too critical,” he wrote.
Since entering the rap game, Wale has often been called “emotional, corny”, thinking that pieces about him have been released about the details of why the artist is “so insecure”, however Wale has been nominated for many awards and continues to release quality music at the operating in a landscape of consumers glamorizing much less skill.
Cam Newton is arguably the most critical QB in recent history, despite his 2015 MVP honor, from his fashion choices (see the backlog he got from sporting a babushka) to his accuracy fights while going through a serious shoulder injury played, he is for some reason in the headers.

His comparison of Ravens QB, and reigning NFL MVP, Lamar Jackson with Roddy Ricch is also spot-on.

“Has influenced the game early in his career,” he wrote.
Entering just his third season in the NFL, in addition to his MVP honors, Jackson has already set NFL records for most rushing yards in a season by a quarterback (1,206), most rushing attempts by a quarterback in a season ( 159), most perfect passer ratings in a season (2), first player to throw 30 touchdowns and run 1,000 yards in a single season, highest touchdown passing percentage (7.4%) in Super Bowl Era, youngest quarterback to to start a Pro Bowl game, youngest player with 5 touchdown passes in multiple games, the youngest player to be named Offensive Player of the Week 4 times in one season, the list is literally on and on.
Roddy Ricch, 21, won Album of the Year for his debut album, Por favor Excuse Me for Antisocial. Debut album. According to XXL, “the album, which returned in December, landed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart a week after it was released – it has been No. 1 on the chart on four different occasions. “
While Washington Football Team QB Dwayne Haskins did not appear on this thread, I took it upon myself to come up with a rapper comparison.
NBA Youngboy.
The two are often criticized for their unique ways of carrying themselves on and off the “field”. They have cult pursuits that believe in their talent and while they may not resonate on every song / play, you definitely see signs of potential and endurance of top speed. Non-fans often look at both and ask themselves, ‘what is it that makes me want this guy so much?’ but keep those feelings inside until there is a more acceptable and widespread moment to do so.
NBA Youngboy is also one of Haskins’ favorite artists, coincidence?
