Singapore’s Royal Caribbean cruise returns after passenger tests for Covid-19

(CNN) – A Royal Caribbean cruise ship has returned to the port of Singapore, while a passenger tested positive for the Covid-19.
Singapore’s Quantum was hosting a three-night, four-day “Cruise to Nowhere” tour around Singapore. The cruise was part of a multi-vented program to revitalize domestic travel in Singapore amid the coronavirus epidemic.

The Royal Caribbean has confirmed to CNN that passengers aboard the ship have tested positive for the virus after checking with a member of the ship’s medical staff.

Upon confirmation positive test, Quantum of the Sea reported the news to Singapore officials and returned to port. Guests will not be allowed off the ship until full contact tracing measures have been taken.

“We worked with the government to develop a complete system that tests and monitors all guests and crew and adheres to the best practices of public health,” said the Royal Caribbean representative. “We’ve been able to quickly identify this single case and take immediate action. The system works just as it was designed to do.”

Annie Chang, director of cruises at the Singapore Tourism Board, told The Straits Times that all close contacts of infected passengers have tested negative for the coronavirus, but as a precautionary measure it will be isolated.

“The well-being and safety of our local community, as well as passengers and crew is the first priority. All passengers, with strict hygiene and safety measures during the journey, undergo the mandatory Covid-19 test before boarding.” Added.

The ship was operating at 50% capacity. All passengers had to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test to wear and wear a mask each time they were out of their ship. Only Singaporeans were allowed to purchase tickets for the cruise, and crew members from around the world spent 14 days separately in the city-state to clear up for work.

As an additional hygiene measure, fresh air was regularly cycled across the ship, the Royal Caribbean said.

In the year 2015, Quantum of Seas entered with great fanfare. On-board amenities include a bumper car, an iPod-ordered bionic bar, a skydiving simulator and 19 restaurants, including a “Alice in Wonderland” theme. It cost 1 billion to build and furnish.
