SINGAPORE – A six-year-old boy was rescued from the edge of the third floor of a housing block in Hougang on Sunday morning by a worker using an arm lift.

The Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) said on Monday (January 4) that it had received a call for assistance at Block 243 Hougang Street 22 at approximately 7:50 a.m. on Sunday.

His spokesman added that the boy was rescued by a worker on a lift platform before SCDF officers arrived at the scene.

The boy, who was evaluated by an SCDF paramedic, was not taken to hospital.

In a video shared on WhatsApp and uploaded to Facebook, the boy, dressed in an orange T-shirt and long pants, is seen standing on the ledge and holding onto a clothesline.

Voices are heard outside of the frame that remind the child to hold onto the rack at a time when his grip is loosening.

The child forces it.

A worker wearing a blue helmet is simultaneously seen standing on the boom lift platform while operating it, maneuvering the platform so that it is within reach of the stranded child.

As he approaches the child, the worker extends both arms and lifts him to the platform, an act that receives cheers from outside the frame.

On Monday, the Chinese nightly daily Lianhe Wanbao reported that the six-year-old boy walked out of the kitchen window after waking up to find he was home alone.

He added that the boy was crying on the ledge as he searched for his mother, and that neighbors who knocked on the door of the third-floor unit after seeing the boy got no response.

Workers interviewed at the scene by Lianhe Wanbao on Monday said that two workers who generally pruned trees were involved in rescuing the boy on Sunday morning, and that although they were not at the foot of the block when the boy went out the window, they were attracted to the scene by their screams.
