Woodlands resident turns elevator lobby into ‘personal gym’

One resident converted the elevator lobby at 621 Woodlands Drive 52 into his “personal gym.”

Stomper Wong, who is also a resident of the block, was frustrated when he saw that the elevator lobby was crammed with gym equipment on Monday (October 26) at 8pm and shared a photo with Stomp.

In the photo, you can see the gym equipment occupying a large space in the elevator lobby.

“This is frustrating, inconsiderate, and not how a public area should be used,” Wong said.

“How can the resident use the elevator lobby area to place their personal gym equipment?

“Is it safe to access the lift area while doing a training session?

“There are even heavy weights and dumbbells, which can be dangerous, especially if there are children walking around.

“I think the resident is a personal gym trainer. But it’s still not okay to bring visitors in for exercise directly in the elevator lobby.

“This has been going on for about two months and I am really frustrated.”

In response to a query from Stomp, a spokesman for the Sembawang City Council said that notices were sent to the owner of the fitness equipment to remove the items.

“Our officer has also been engaging with the resident in removing the equipment,” added the city council spokesman.

“The resident has cooperated and the equipment was completely cleaned up on Wednesday morning (October 28) with the help of the city council.

“We will continue to monitor the area to make sure there is no recurrence.”

Stomper Wong also shared photos of the elevator lobby on Wednesday afternoon (October 28) to show that the gym equipment has moved to the side and is no longer blocking the elevator.
