Suspecting her boyfriend’s close relationship with her maid, a jealous girlfriend decided to terminate the maid’s job and send her packing.
Little did she know that her attempt to separate the couple would backfire spectacularly.
Her boyfriend not only secretly arranged for the Indonesian helper to stay in Singapore, but also rented her a house and even fathered a child with the 28-year-old, she revealed in an interview with Lianhe Wanbao.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared with the Chinese newspaper that she and her boyfriend had moved to Singapore from China more than 10 years ago and have a daughter together.
Although they were never married, they have lived together for many years, he said.
Since they were both working, they decided to hire a maid to take care of their daughter in 2017.
It was only in 2019 when her daughter blurted out “Dad hugged kakak (sister)” that the woman realized something was wrong.
Despite her boyfriend’s denials, she began to suspect that something was going on between the couple.
After several fights with her boyfriend over his assistant, she decided to send the assistant home before her employment contract ended.
Believing that things would improve once the aide left, he even “personally sent her to the airport” and “made sure she got in.”
[[nid:503316]]Unbeknownst to her, her boyfriend had secretly extended the assistant’s employment contract for two months and rented a place for her to stay in Singapore.
She only found out the truth when she pried on her boyfriend’s phone, she said. According to her, she had a bad feeling after he continued to date regularly, even during the breaker period.
To her dismay, she found that the aide she had apparently “sent home” was still in Singapore and even had a baby with her boyfriend, who was born in May this year.
After being confronted, her boyfriend finally admitted that he lived with his assistant, she said, lamenting that he only occasionally returns home to see his daughter now.
Outraged, she tried to report the deputy to the police, but was allegedly told there was “no reason” to arrest him.
He then reported the matter to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), he said.
MOM investigates man and assistant
In response to inquiries from the newspaper, the MOM confirmed that it is aware of the matter and that it is investigating the man and the domestic worker under the Employment of Foreign Labor Law.
Employed persons with a work permit cannot become pregnant or give birth to a child in Singapore unless they are married to a Singaporean citizen or permanent resident.
Work permit holders also require MOM approval to marry a Singapore citizen or permanent resident.
Violating any conditions of a work pass is a crime and is punishable by a fine of up to $ 10,000, up to one year in prison, or both.
Employers who are aware of their maid’s pregnancy but do not report it to MOM could also lose their $ 5,000 bond.
