SINGAPORE – After watching a video of her younger brother being assaulted, a Singaporean woman plotted her revenge against a pair of siblings seen in the video.
Under the pretext of celebrating Hari Raya, Norhayati Jaffar, 37, invited the brothers, Muhammad Faizal Omar, 29, and Nur Farahtika Omar, 27, to his home, where he intended to assault them. He also planned to pour hot water on the couple and film the attack.
Norhayati also tied up two others to carry out the attack: one of his other brothers, Muhammad Bakhtiyar Jaffar, 35, and his friend, Nurhanifah Juma’at, 28.
In state courts on Tuesday (October 13), Norhayati was jailed for five years and four months on one count of willfully causing harm to Faizal and three drug-related offenses, which she committed while under investigation for the Hari Raya attack. .
One count of pouring hot water on Farathika and two other counts of not showing up for urine tests were taken into consideration for sentencing.
Nurhanifah was previously imprisoned for one year and three months, while Bakhtiyar received 10 weeks in jail for her role in the incident.
Caught on camera
While organizing the Hari Raya celebrations on July 7, 2018, Norhayati saw a video of her younger brother being beaten by Faizal and his relatives. The video, widely shared on Facebook, also showed that Farahtika was present during the attack.
Enraged by what she had seen, Norhayati decided to take revenge. He invited the brothers to his home and lied to them, saying that he had an urgent matter to discuss with them.
Later that day, he called Bakhtiyar and Nurhanifah at their apartment. Both had also seen the video and were angry at the brothers.
The three discussed how their assault would be carried out and Nurhanifah was instructed to boil water in a kettle before the brothers arrived. Norhayati then poured the water into a jug.
Shortly after midnight, the brothers arrived at the Norhayati apartment with two other women. When the group entered, Norhayati closed and locked the front door. Later, she and Bahtiyar assaulted Faizal and Farahtika while Nurhanifah filmed the attack with a mobile phone.
Norhayati also poured hot water on Faraktika’s neck, back, and right ear and hit her with the jug. After Farahtika fell to the ground, Norhayati hit her with a bamboo pole while Bakhtiyar hit Faizal, who was lying curled up on the ground.
Farahtika managed to escape the floor, prompting Norhayati to target Faizal. Despite Faizal’s pleading for mercy, Bakhtiyar slammed his head against the arm of a chair. At one point, Norhayati poured hot water on the left side of Faizal’s body, causing him to jump in pain and flee from the floor.
Norhayati and Bakhtiyar then chased Faizal, with Nurhanifah following him as they filmed the chase. Video of the attack was later posted online and widely viewed.
Second degree burns
Faizal was found to have suffered second-degree burns at various sites on more than 4.5 percent of the surface of his body when he sought medical attention five days after the attack. Farahtika was found to have second-degree burns to her neck and bruises to her neck and right shoulder, as well as tenderness to her neck and right shoulder.
Norhayati, who had previously received a supervisory order due to drug offenses, was arrested on April 4 last year after being seen behaving suspiciously in the Spooner Road area. A random review found that she was wanted for not showing up for her regular urinalysis. An analysis of Norhayati’s urine sample showed that he had used methamphetamine, which he admitted to doing a few days before his arrest.
She was arrested again on March 12 after her urine tested positive for the same drug, also known by her street name as “Ice.” Norhayati confessed that a friend had given her ice that had passed through her unit while she was at home. She said she then added the ice to her orange juice and drank it.
