SINGAPORE: SBS Transit said it is assisting police with investigations following an incident Monday in which a woman was struck by one of its buses and was trapped under the rear wheel.
Responding to inquiries from the CNA, SBS Transit said on Wednesday (December 9) that “its immediate focus is on the well-being of the pedestrian,” adding that it is in contact with their closest family members.
“We are sorry that this has happened and we are committed to supporting you as you recover,” said Ms. Tammy Tan, the company’s senior vice president of corporate communications.
The incident took place at the junction of Bedok Reservoir Road and Bedok North Road on Monday and was captured on video by the car camera of another vehicle.
The bus turned right at its discretion as the woman walked through the crosswalk. Video of part of the sequence of events is obscured by a van and when the pedestrian appears next, she is seen pinned under the right rear wheel of the bus.
The Singapore Civil Defense Force said it was alerted to the incident at around 12:55 p.m.
“SCDF transferred a person to Changi General Hospital,” SCDF said.
Police were also informed of the incident at the same time, saying that “the 54-year-old was conscious” when she was taken to hospital.
Investigations are ongoing, police added.
SBS Transit is also assisting police in the investigation, said Tan of SBS Transit.
“We would also like to apologize to the affected passengers and motorists who suffered inconvenience Monday afternoon due to the accident,” he added.
