SINGAPORE – A 47-year-old woman and three teenagers were arrested for allegedly using a stolen credit card to conduct unauthorized transactions totaling more than $ 15,000.
The woman and the adolescents, two 17 and one 18, are suspected of stealing a credit card and shopping, buying clothes and beauty products, among other items.
Another four, two boys and two girls between the ages of 13 and 17, are assisting in the investigations for their alleged involvement in the case.
Police said they had received a report from the credit card holder on September 21. The man had discovered that several unauthorized transactions had been made with his missing card and filed a police report.
Investigations later revealed that a 14-year-old boy is believed to have stolen the victim’s card.
The woman and the seven teens involved allegedly used this card to make a variety of purchases worth more than $ 15,000. They bought clothes, beauty products, an e-scooter, a bag, and a watch.
The woman will be indicted in court on Monday (October 19) for complicity in conspiracy to cheat.
Investigations against the seven teenagers are ongoing.
“Police want to remind the public that unauthorized use of another person’s credit or debit card is a serious crime,” police said in a statement Sunday.
He added that members of the public who use credit or debit cards are advised to keep them securely on their person at all times and to call card-issuing banks immediately if they are lost or stolen.
Members of the public can also choose to have SMS notifications sent to their mobile phone for any charges incurred on their credit or debit card. They should alert the bank immediately in case there are discrepancies or unauthorized charges on the bank statements.
If convicted of cheating crimes, one can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
