SINGAPORE: More rains are expected over Singapore during the first two weeks of December, the Singapore Meteorological Service (MSS) said in a press release on Tuesday (December 1).

Moderate to heavy short-duration stormy rains are forecast over parts of Singapore in the afternoon most days, MSS said, adding that these rains can extend into the night “at times.”

“In a few days, torrential rains could be heavy and widespread due to large-scale convergence of winds over and around Singapore,” the service said.

A strengthening of northeast winds can be expected in the second half of the fortnight, MSS said, adding that this is forecast to bring occasional windy conditions on some days.

“Rainfall during the first half of December is expected to be close to normal in most of Singapore,” MSS said.

The daily temperature is projected to range from 24 degrees Celsius to 33 degrees Celsius on most days for the next two weeks, and can reach 34 degrees Celsius in “one or two days.” In a few days of rain, daily lows of around 22 degrees Celsius can be expected, MSS said.

SECOND COOLEST NOVEMBER IN 10 YEARS

The wet weather conditions during the first two weeks of December are a continuation of a generally wet month in November.

The humid climate can be attributed to strong solar heating of land areas along with large-scale convergence of winds over Singapore and the surrounding area, MSS said.

On November 2, heavy stormy rains fell over many parts of the island, and the total daily rainfall recorded that day reached 134.2 mm at Paya Lebar.

“This was the highest total precipitation in one day for November 2020,” MSS said.

In November there were some warm days, mainly in the first half of the month. The highest daily maximum temperature of 34.9 degrees Celsius was recorded in Clementi and Paya Lebar on November 5 and 12, respectively.

In the second half of November 2020, rainy weather and cloudy skies brought cooler temperatures, MSS said.

The lowest daily minimum temperature of 22.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Pulau Ubin on November 28.

“At the Changi weather station, November 2020 recorded a monthly average temperature of 27.2 degrees Celsius, making November 2020 the second coldest November in 10 years,” MSS said.
