SERGIO RAMOS bizarrely conceded one of three penalties as Real Madrid crashed in a surprising 4-1 defeat in Valencia.
The Los Blancos captain intentionally hit the ball away from Yunus Musah’s path that did not go unnoticed by the VAR.
But in reality, Zinedine Zidane’s team was already dead and buried before Carlos Soler scored a hat-trick, all from the penalty spot.
Valencia showed their threat early on after Denis Cheryshev showed pace and skill to launch a mocking cross that Madrid managed to clear.
But just as Valencia got under way, Karim Benzema made a special shot as he passed the ball to Jaume Domenech from 20 meters in the 23rd minute to open the scoring.
Unfazed by the Frenchman’s class, the hosts continued to put pressure on the Madrid defense and were rewarded when Lucas Vázquez managed a cross from José Gaya for a penalty.
Thibaut Courtois saved Soler’s attempt at the post, but was not wrong a second time when the referee allowed it to be taken again for intrusion.
Things went from bad to worse for the defending champs, after Varne deflected a cross into his own net two minutes before the break.
With the wind in favor, Valencia was not finished.
They started the second half the same way they finished the first, at the top.
Lee Kang-in turned Ramos around and then forced Courtois to force his shot into the wood.
Camped within their 18-yard area, it wasn’t long before one of Madrid’s defenders was frustrated.
Marcelo unleashed his emotions on Maxi Gomes, giving Soler another chance to convert from 12 yards.
As if that were not enough to teach them, Ramos then produced his moment of madness that the referee checked on the monitor, leaving him no choice but to give a third penalty.
Soler was not wrong again, nailing the nails in Madrid’s first loss of the season.
To make matters worse for Zidane, his talisman Benzema was forced to retire with a suspected hamstring injury.
