Donny van de Beek has vowed to “learn” from the world’s best midfielders after joining Manchester United for five years.
the 23 years old, who is in international service with the Netherlands, moves to Old Trafford for a fee believed to be around € 39 million, plus another € 5 million in add-ons.
Van de Beek skipped Holland training on Monday to undergo his United medical check in the Netherlands and has signed an agreement until 2025.
The central midfielder will travel to the United Kingdom after his country’s Nations League matches against Poland (September 4) and Italy (September 7).
Some questions remain about the role Van de Beek will play at United. Some believe he will line up in a midfield three alongside Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes. Others, namely Mark Bosnich, believes that Pogba could lose his place on the side.
However, instead of claiming that he’s here to take any of their spots, Van de Beek has sent the duo a message. In an effort to ease any tension, he insists he’s at United to learn from them, as well as to add his own brand on the side.
Speak after signing on the dotted lineVan de Beek said: “I cannot begin to explain what an incredible opportunity it is to join a club with such an amazing history.
“I would like to thank everyone at Ajax. I grew up there and will always have a special bond with the club.
“Now I am ready to take the next step in my career and perform at the highest level. There is no higher standard than Manchester United.
“Everyone has told me how amazing the atmosphere at Old Trafford is. I look forward to experiencing that, once it’s safe for the fans to come back. “
On the successful Pogba-Fernandes tandem, he added: “This team has some of the best midfielders in the world and I know I can learn from them. I will also bring my own strengths to the group.
“Having spoken with the coach about his vision for this team, the direction the club is taking is tremendously exciting and I can’t wait to be a part of that.”
