PETALING JAYA (THE STAR / ASIA NEWS NETWORK) – AirAsia founder Tony Fernandes has put his sprawling Ayrshire estate in Scotland up for sale for £ 2.5 million (S $ 4.45 million) as the Covid-19 pandemic it has affected airlines around the world. according to the British tabloid The Sun.
The estate is completed by a classic 18th century Georgian farmhouse known as the Skeldon House, set in extensive natural forest that stretches down to the banks of the River Doon.
The property, which has five rooms, including two suites, an all-weather tennis court, a wine cellar and sauna, among others, went up for sale on October 1.
Tan Sri Tony, who also owned the Queens Park Rangers soccer club, had been staying at Skeldon House for seven years.
Malaysia’s low-cost carrier AirAsia had ventured into the food delivery business in March as most flights were on the ground following the closure of international borders to contain the Covid-19 transmission.
Like many others who were hard hit by the pandemic, Fernandes is refocusing his attention on other profitable companies deemed sustainable during the pandemic.
Fernandes, 56, was recognized as one of Asia’s most marketing savvy entrepreneurs, having turned his company and himself into a global brand by doing creative marketing tricks.
He began his career in the entertainment industry in the early 1990s and rose to build one of the largest budget airlines in the region.
