KUALA LUMPUR: The supreme council of the United Malaysia National Organization (UMNO) will meet on Monday evening (October 26) to decide on the party’s support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, following the latter’s failed attempt to testify the state of emergency.
Lawmakers from Barisan Nasional (BN) had previously gathered at the Putra World Trade Center on Monday afternoon for a discussion on the country’s political development.
Former Prime Minister Najib Razak said that several BN parliamentarians gave their views and opinions on the position of the coalition within the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government and the direction the UMNO should take.
“However, the final decision will be made by the supreme council (of UMNO) tonight,” said the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pekan.
He added that at this time they were exchanging ideas among the deputies.
“No matter how, UMNO cannot be broken. It should act as a single block. This is the opinion of all the members, ”he said.

UMNO Vice President Hishamuddin Hussein, also BN Treasurer General, said the issue of Muhyiddin’s resignation had not been raised.
“The discussion was about how to move forward,” he said.
“Whatever decision we make, it should be based on what is good for the rakyat (people) and the country,” added the Foreign Minister and the Sembrong MP.
The UMNO supreme council meeting will be held at 8:30 pm on Monday evening.
Multimedia and Communications Deputy Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin told reporters that several MPs have raised their views on the possibility of an early election, provided the COVID-19 situation is under control.
He said that the views of the deputies would be brought before the UMNO supreme council.
