SINGAPORE – Two hotels at Resorts World Sentosa will not be able to accept new reservations for one month due to not following safe distancing measures.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said in a statement on Monday (December 21) that the suspension of Beach Villas and Equarius Hotel will begin on Tuesday and last until January 21.

Hotels can still fulfill existing reservations.

As of Monday, 10 hotels and hostels have been fined for violating safe management measures, such as failing to carry out an entrance control or record the contact details of guests entering their facilities, STB said.

His law enforcement officers discovered that at least 15 people had gathered at a two-story villa in Beach Villas on October 10, although the reservation was made with four people.

Of the 15 people, only four were registered as hotel guests.

Current safe management measures restrict meetings to no more than five people in any one guest room, unless they are all in the same household.

STB also found that the hotel failed to take steps to conduct entry checks such as people’s temperature checks. Nor did he implement SafeEntry to ensure they had signed up for contact tracing.

Furthermore, on November 17, STB agents discovered that the Equarius Hotel did not prevent a 16-person gathering in one of its rooms.

The room had been reserved with the names of three of the 16 people.

The hotel had not deployed staff at the entry points to ensure that people checked in through SafeEntry, did not take their temperatures, and failed to ensure that no more than five people were gathered in the same room, STB said.

“Further investigations of the two hotels and the individuals involved are underway, and steps can be taken to enforce the law,” he added.

Under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act, first-time offenders can be fined up to $ 10,000 or jailed for up to six months, or both.

Repeat offenders can be fined up to $ 20,000 or jailed for up to 12 months, or both.

“STB takes a serious view of any breach of safe management measures and will not hesitate to take enforcement action for breach,” the agency said.

STB had introduced additional safe management measures on December 1 following several violations and in view of the public holiday period.

These included ensuring that each visitor to a guest room is pre-registered by the guest prior to arrival, and that visitor entry to guest rooms is monitored, for example, by visitor passes or staff stationed in lobbies.

Hotels and hostels that have been previously fined for violating safe management measures are: Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, Furama Riverfront Singapore, Gap Year Hostel, Hotel 1887, Hotel Supreme, Kim Tian Hotel (Han), One Degree 15 Marina Club, ST Signature Jalan Besar Hotel, ST Signature Tanjong Pagar Hotel and Thad’s Boutique Hostel.
