A man who tried to escape police in his car on Monday allegedly ran over seven vehicles and a police car in a parking lot, injuring two officers.

Police said Monday night that the 26-year-old was arrested after an island-wide search operation.

He is expected to be charged today in court with two counts of reckless act that caused harm.

Police said the man was wanted for escape on bail, a prominent case of willfully causing injury with a dangerous weapon, driving while disqualified and for failing to appear for urine tests.

At approximately 4 a.m. on Monday, police tried to detain him in an open-air parking lot on Bukit Batok Street 33.

But he refused to comply and escaped in a silver car, crashing into seven parked vehicles and a police car in the process.

Two officers, aged 27 and 33, were injured and taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

They have been discharged after receiving treatment for their injuries.

Launching an island-wide operation, police tracked the badly damaged getaway car to Jurong East with the help of security cameras.

They found the man in a unit in the 257 Jurong East Street 24 block, and arrested him within hours of his escape for reckless act causing injuries and suspected drug offenses.

Deputy Deputy Commissioner of Police Zed Teo, Ang Mo Kio Division Commander, said the police will not tolerate those who put the safety of the public at risk.

“The police have managed to arrest the suspect despite the dynamic and challenging circumstances,” he said.

“We will not hesitate to take strong action against criminals who blatantly ignore the law and threaten the safety of our neighborhoods.”

For each charge of reckless act causing harm, violators can be fined up to $ 5,000 or jailed for up to one year, or both.

Investigations into the man’s drug activities are ongoing.
