SINGAPORE – A doctor at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) faces criminal action after he allegedly caused death by negligent driving in an accident in Tampines last year.

Ernest Fu Weizhong, 37, a consultant, had his case in district court on October 15.

There are two charges against you: one of causing death by negligent driving and one of causing injury by negligent driving.

According to court documents, Fu was driving on Tampines Avenue 12 around 8 p.m. on October 8 of last year when he came to a traffic light crossing on the ramp to Tampines Expressway.

When turning right on the slip road, it is said that he was unable to yield to other vehicles.

This allegedly resulted in a collision with a car going straight on 12 Tampines Avenue in the opposite direction.

The driver of the other car, Mr. Soon Jin Joke, 68, suffered injuries that included chest pain in the accident.

His 96-year-old passenger, Ms. Heng Fong Boey, died as a result of her injuries.

Fu’s bail was set at $ 10,000 and the case was postponed until November 5.

If convicted of causing a death by negligent driving, you can be jailed for up to two years and fined.

Criminals convicted of causing injury by negligent driving can be jailed for up to six months and fined up to $ 2,500.
