Singaporeans will not be able to travel to Indonesia under the Singapore-Indonesia Reciprocal Green Lane / Travel Corridor Arrangement, following Indonesia’s temporary ban on entry of all foreign nationals, amid concerns over the most infectious coronavirus strain identified in Great Britain.

This was announced yesterday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), in response to media inquiries. On Monday, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi announced the ban, which began yesterday and will end on January 14.

“The Indonesian government has notified MFA that this ban would also apply to foreigners traveling to Indonesia under all of Indonesia’s travel corridor agreements with other countries,” MFA said.

Given the reciprocal nature of the green lane agreement, commuters from Indonesia will also not be allowed to enter Singapore during the ban period, MFA said. But travelers who have already received approval to enter Singapore via the reciprocal green lane can continue.

The Indonesian Foreign Minister had also said that Indonesian citizens returning from abroad would be allowed entry.

But they have to follow rigorous procedures, including taking a coronavirus test upon arrival and being quarantined for five days at designated hotels, even if they test negative. The costs of testing and quarantine will be covered by the Indonesian government for returning citizens.

The Singapore-Indonesia green lane was announced on October 12 to allow travel for commercial and official purposes.
