SINGAPORE – An anesthesiologist, who is director of a clinic at the two Mount Elizabeth hospitals, claimed trial on Monday (March 1) on four charges of sexually abusing a woman.

Yeo Sow Nam, 52, is charged with committing the crimes on the 12th floor of Orchard Hospital on the night of October 9, 2017.

He is represented by attorneys Eugene Thuraisingam, Chooi Jing Yen, and Johannes Hadi.

Court documents say Yeo allegedly performed acts such as grabbing the 32-year-old victim’s breasts with his hands and kissing her on the head.

The victim, who cannot be named due to a gag order to protect her identity, testified behind closed doors in court on Monday, which meant the hearing was not open to the public, including the media.

An online search for registered healthcare professionals in Singapore showed that Yeo is still practicing.

The Mount Elizabeth website states that he is the director of a clinic called The Pain Specialist at Orchard and Novena Hospitals. The clinic’s website states that its goal is to help patients relieve or control pain.

The Mount Elizabeth website also said that Yeo is the current president of the World Pain Institute for Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand, as well as the founder, former director, and now visiting consultant for the Center for Pain Management and Acupuncture Service. of Singapore General Hospital. .

Records from the Corporate and Accounting Regulatory Authority indicate that Yeo is the director of several organizations, such as the Singapore Academy of Medicine and the Singapore College of Anesthesiologists.

For each count of sexual abuse, an offender can be imprisoned for up to two years, fined or punished. Yeo cannot be beaten because he is over 50 years old.
