The Spurs captain had missed the previous two losses to Brighton and Chelsea, but got off to a surprise start against Sam Allarydce’s team.
“We’ve had a couple of bad results, so it was very important to get back on the winning track,” Son said.
“Harry is one of the best forwards in the world, so we miss him, even though it was only a couple of games, and I’m happy he scored again. I miss him.”
The victory sees the Spurs overtake Chelsea in seventh place, while West Brom remains in 19th place in the table.
The hosts dominated possession early on and Kane nearly opened the scoring in the 15th minute, but his shot hit the crossbar.
Kane also saw a shot go just over the post before West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone parried Serge Aurier with a brilliant save.
Just before the break, West Brom came close to taking a surprising lead, but Mbaye Diagne’s close-range effort was saved by Hugo Lloris.
The Spurs finally broke the deadlock after 54 minutes when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg found Kane inside the box to finish off.
Kane becomes the second leading scorer alongside Bobby Smith in club history with 208 goals behind Jimmy Greaves.
They are doubled the Spurs lead after he was at the end of a quick counterattack started by Lucas Moura.
West Brom posed a threat at the end and Diagne then scored two goals offside. The Spurs held a clean sheet and three crucial points.
“Kane is a special player, but today they showed everyone how close they are and how much they were suffering from the poor results,” Spurs coach José Mourinho said after the game.
