Tottenham accelerates interest in £ 15m Serie A central defender

Tottenham are monitoring a Serie A center-back ahead of a possible January offer, while Man Utd faces rivals to sign a defensive midfielder from the Bundesliga, according to transfer rumors on Tuesday.

SPURS CHASING SERIES A CENTRAL

Tottenham They are reportedly monitoring Sassuolo central defender Gian Marco Ferrari with a view to making an offer in January.

Currently, José Mourinho has five central defense options, with Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier his first option, although the former is currently on the sidelines.

Davinson Sánchez, Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon are also on Tottenham’s books, with the latter making his Premier League debut in a goalless draw with Chelsea.

Rodon performed well at Stamford Bridge, despite a couple of mistakes that could have led to goals, but he is still inexperienced at the highest level.

Former record signing Sánchez has struggled with inconsistency, while Tanganga has had his fair share of injury problems.

To that end, sources have said 90min that Mourinho wants to improve his defensive options, with a left-handed replacement for Jan Vertonghen in his sights.

The report adds that while Daniel Levy is willing to approve a deal, the Spurs do not want to spend more than 15 million pounds.

With that budget in mind, the north London side has targeted Ferrari, 28, as a potential option.

The defender is currently the star of the Serie A surprise package Sassuolo, having played all nine games so far this season.

Ferrari was called up by Italy in 2018 without playing, but his form this season saw him win a call-up for the November games.

The former Sampdoria star has a contract until 2023 and was linked to Everton, Roma and Napoli last summer.

It is understood that Tottenham’s budget of around £ 15 million would be enough to persuade Sassuolo to sell, with the Italian team badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The report adds that Spurs also maintain an interest in South Korean defender Kim Min-jae, although Ferrari would be considered less risky.
