On Sunday, a fight broke out at a restaurant on Circular Road, the third in the space of a week near bars and restaurants on the Singapore River.

A video posted on Facebook on Monday shows a fight between a group of people outside The Mask Restaurant & Bar on Circular Road, as screams can be heard.

A manager at a nearby restaurant told The New Paper yesterday that he saw people punching and kicking each other.

He also noted that the area was packed with customers at the time.

The manager, who did not want to be named, said: “There were about 20 people involved in the commotion that lasted between 15 and 20 minutes. Some of them (could have) been there to stop the fight.”

Police said they were alerted to a fight between two groups of people around 9.45pm on Sunday.

Two men, aged 24 and 42, were arrested for a reckless act.

Through follow-up investigations and with the help of images from closed-circuit television cameras, they arrested another five people, ages 20 to 27, within two hours of the time of the report.

A knife was also seized as a case exhibit.

The police are requesting information on the whereabouts of three other people in connection with the case.

The three men are identified as Afif Daniel Norhidayat, Muhammad Khaliff Norhidayat and Mohamad Firdaus Yusni.

Police said investigations are ongoing and they will not tolerate blatant acts of violence and breaking the law.

They also reminded the public that harboring fugitives is a serious crime.

One case of rioting took place at Boat Quay, which is just off Circular Road, on December 13, the Sunday before.

The following day, the police arrested five men and three women, aged between 22 and 27, for their alleged involvement.

Last Saturday, a fight at Clarke Quay has seen nine people charged so far.

ISOLATED

Michelle Koh, executive director of Singapore River One, which manages the Singapore River precinct, including Boat Quay, Clarke Quay and Circular Road, said the fights that occurred in the area are isolated incidents and are not related to operations management.

“We would like to assure visitors that all aspects of public safety, before and during the pandemic, have always been our first priority and we will continue to work with operators to ensure this,” he added.

Away from the Singapore River area, police were alerted to another case of confrontation, this time along Ang Mo Kio avenue 3, around 9:30 pm last Friday.

A video posted on the All Singapore Stuff Facebook group that was taken from the opposite side of the road shows at least six men exchanging punches and kicks on the sidewalk and then on the road.

Police said a 15-year-old boy and a 43-year-old man who suffered minor injuries were arrested for fighting.

A 19-year-old woman was arrested for riots.

No one was taken to the hospital and police investigations are ongoing.
