SINGAPORE – Three food and beverage establishments were ordered to close for 10 days for failing to comply with safe management measures.

Another 15 have also been fined, the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment (MSE) said on Thursday (September 17).

These violations were found during intensified compliance checks by government agencies over the weekend of September 12-13.

Jiang Hu Xia Ke in Orchard Plaza is one of three outlets that were ordered to close. Officers arrived at 11 p.m. last Saturday and saw 13 patrons pouring drinks from metal kettles to consume at their tables.

Investigations showed that the kettles contained beer, and the restaurant supervisor admitted to hiding alcohol consumption with the kettles.

The beer bottles sold by the restaurant were also hidden in the bottom of a refrigerator to store drinks.

According to the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Law of 2020, it is prohibited to sell and consume alcoholic beverages after 10:30 pm

On Tuesday, the Singapore Tourism Board ordered the restaurant to close from Wednesday for a period of 10 days until September 25.

Another F&B establishment that has been ordered closed is 96 Food Fusion & Bar at 2 Venture Drive in Jurong East.

Officers who arrived at the bar last Saturday at 9 pm saw eight patrons sitting together interspersed at a long table.

Singapore’s Food Agency on Wednesday ordered the operator to shut down from Thursday to September 26, also for 10 days.

The third F&B store ordered to close is Frog Meat Fish Head at 5 Mosque Street in Chinatown.

On Sunday, the restaurant accepted a reservation of 10 customers and seated the group at two tables in a private dining room, which was observed by officers who arrived around 10 p.m.

When asked, a staff member claimed that the diners at the two tables did not know each other.

However, after further questions, the clients admitted they were colleagues, MSE said.

The Singapore Tourism Board also issued an order on Wednesday requiring the operator of Frog Meat Fish Head to close its facilities from Thursday to September 26.

Of the other 15 establishments that were sanctioned, 10 were fined $ 1,000 for infractions, such as allowing groups of more than five to sit together or mingle between tables, and groups of customer seats less than 1 meter apart.

The other five outlets were fined $ 2,000 for repeat offenses.

On Wednesday, government agencies carried out additional inspections at 57 food and beverage outlets in known hot spots, MSE said.

Seven were found to have violated safe management measures, such as having groups of more than five sitting together or mingling between tables, seating groups of customers less than 1 meter apart, and serving and allowing alcohol consumption after hours. 10.30 pm

Agencies are reviewing violations and considering appropriate enforcement actions, MSE said.

Sustainability and Environment Minister Grace Fu said in a Facebook post Thursday night that it is regrettable that authorities continue to find food and drink establishments that fail to comply with safe management measures.

He added: “These actions are putting Singaporeans at risk. A resurgence of Covid-19 infections would set us back on the progress we have made in transitioning to a new normal.”
