‘They play as children of five and six years’

Liverpool stars show the excitement of the ‘five and six year olds’ as a return to football from the nearest coronavirus hiatus, says coach Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds were just two wins away from claiming their first title in the Premier League era when competitive action was halted due to the global pandemic in early April.

Now that the Covid-19 situation is slowing, the Premier League aims to return in June, and the teams will resume training later this month.

Klopp can see the enthusiasm of his players to start playing again, but warned that there was a lot of preparation before the league resumed.

“The boys have a lot of work to do, physical work because we all hope to go again,” Klopp told NBC Sports.

“I don’t know exactly when, but we have to prepare for that, that’s what children do.”

“When we get back together, we have to make the most of the situation we have. We don’t know how long we will prepare for the games, so at that point we will just try.”

“When we give children a challenge to do in their gardens, you can see that they really play as five and six year olds.”

“And that is what we will try to transfer to the field as well.”

With the fate of the current season still at stake and at the mercy of any other coronavirus outbreak, Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris feels it would be cruel if the Reds were denied the title.

“We are in a situation where everyone wants to finish and have the verdict of the field,” the French international told L’Equipe.

“It would be terrible if it all ended like this nine days before the end of the Premier League. It would also be cruel for Liverpool with the advantage they have. They are almost champions.”

“As with everyone, there would be a display of unfinished business. Also, we are entering the most exciting period, the most beautiful moment of the season. No one wants it to end like this.”
