SINGAPORE: Five food and beverage establishments were ordered to temporarily close for failing to comply with COVID-19 measures over the weekend, the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment (MSE) said on Tuesday (December 22).

In addition, 16 points of sale and 36 customers will be fined for violating safe management measures, MSE said.

Three of the outlets were found to have violated restrictions on serving alcohol after 10:30 p.m.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) ordered an establishment, Tangmen at Orchard Plaza, to close from December 19 to 28 after patrons were found to be consuming alcoholic beverages hidden in green tea bottles at 3.40 a.m. on Saturday. .

Cheers Up at Havelock II was ordered to close by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) in the same period to allow customers to consume alcoholic beverages after 10:30 p.m. on December 11.

“When officers did a follow-up check on December 18, they found that Cheers Up still allowed customers to consume alcoholic beverages at 11.15 pm,” MSE said.

The bar was subsequently ordered to close for another 20 days, from December 29 to January 17.

URA also ordered QQ at 77 South Bridge Road to close from December 23 to January 1 after customers were seen consuming alcoholic beverages at 10:40 p.m.

The other two establishments received closure orders for disobeying restrictions related to the number of people who are allowed to dine together at their facilities.

Currently, only groups of up to five people can sit together in food and drink establishments. This will increase to eight people when Singapore enters Phase 3 of its reopening on December 28.

STB ordered one of the outlets, One Min Club at Concorde Hotel on Orchard Road, to close for 10 days for multiple violations of secure management measures.

The store allowed a group of 11 to sit at one table and a group of seven to another, and also provided drinking games for customers.

“Food and beverage establishments cannot offer games if they are not allowed to offer games if they are not also an entertainment center,” MSE said in its statement. The store has received orders to close from December 20 to 29.

Another outlet, Chong Qing Steamboat at 87 Beach Road, had a group of eight customers interspersed at 10 p.m. Subsequently, the URA issued a 10-day closure order from December 23 to January 1 against the restaurant.

FINES ISSUED TO F&B POINTS, INDIVIDUALS

In addition to those that received closure orders, 16 food and beverage establishments will also be fined for violating safe management measures. Violations include allowing groups of more than five people to sit together, allowing groups to mingle, and seating groups of clients less than 1 meter apart.

Thirty-six people will also be fined for failing to observe measures at food and beverage establishments, including sitting in groups of more than five and mixing between different parties.

“The agencies are reviewing the infractions and the appropriate enforcement actions to be taken, including the temporary closure of points of sale and the issuance of fines. Food and beverage establishments that commit repeated violations will face stiffer penalties. “

The ministry reminded the public to be vigilant, particularly during the festive period.

“While many may wish to meet family and friends, or visit popular areas for shopping, dining out, or other social activities, we urge everyone to be socially responsible, observe SMMs (safe driving measures), and use a mask unless he’s drinking or eating, ”it said.

“This will help protect public health, while allowing businesses to stay open.

“The government will not hesitate to crack down on the operators and individuals who treat SMMs with blatant indifference.”
