Tottenham boss José Mourino is believed to be bidding £ 26 million for Real Madrid right-back Álvaro Odriozola, according to reports in Spain.

Despite his reputation for organizing a backline, Mourinho has struggled in that department since he was named manager of the Spurs in November 2019.

The table shows that the Spurs have sent 40 goals so far this season, more than anyone in the top nine and the same as Brighton in 15th place.

Mourinho You can’t blame all of that, but you haven’t been able to stop the tide and now you’re trying to shake things up in the back.

That’s brought Odriozola in the frame and Don Balon They report that Tottenham is ready to take the step despite the 24-year-old being flagged as a failure after failing to make his mark at the Bernabéu.

The Spaniard, who moved from Real Sociedad for € 30m in the summer of 2018, was unable to settle in Madrid and, after making just five appearances for Real this season, was loaned to Bayern Munich.

Once again, he hasn’t made an impression on Germany, making just two appearances for the Bundesliga giants.

While Bayern won both games, the results were 4-3 against Hoffenheim in the German Cup and 3-2 at home against SC Paderborn in the league.

However, Odriozola clearly has a pedigree with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, his last two clubs, and Mourinho may think he can bring out the best in the young man.

While £ 26m has been traded, transfer fees could be cut with the football economy facing a shake-up and the Spurs may feel that the player represents good value in terms of his long-term prospects.

A sign of its kind is that Odriozola has already been limited four times by his country, the first of them in 2017.

He also has an international goal to his name as he was the winner in Spain’s 1-0 friendly victory over Switzerland in June 2018.

The defender was previously linked to a move to Manchester United two summers ago..
