SINGAPORE – The Orange Ballroom wedding venue was ordered on Monday (March 22) to close for 20 days for “egregious breaches” of COVID-19 security management measures to allow a couple to hold three weddings with 275 people, said the Singapore Land Authority (SLA).

According to the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulation of 2020, a couple can only host one wedding reception, in which no more than 100 people participate, including the groom and the bride.

The SLA said its safe distancing ambassadors had conducted checks on January 30 at the venue, located on the third floor of the Tanjong Katong Complex in Geylang, and noted that the couple held two receptions at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Subsequent investigations found that arrangements were made to house about 300 people at three receptions on the same day.

Investigations are ongoing for possible infractions under the COVID-19 (Temporary measures) (Control Order) 2020 regulations, the authority added.

“Agencies take seriously any breach of safe management measures by wedding planners, venue operators, and individuals. We remember all companies involved in wedding events, as well as couples planning their weddings. , that they are fully aware of and strictly adhere to the safe management measures in place to ensure the health and well-being of the community, ”said the SLA.

The Orange Ballroom was announced on April 4 last year as a COVID-19 cluster by authorities.
