Two men, ages 35 and 49, were arrested on Tuesday (December 8) for allegedly tricking a man into sending compromising photos of himself and threatening to circulate the images unless they were given $ 10,000.

The male victim said that an unknown man had demanded $ 10,000 from him on December 1.

The latter had allegedly threatened to circulate the compromising photographs of the victim if the victim did not transfer the money.

The victim subsequently transferred $ 5,000 to the man’s bank account. When the man allegedly demanded that the victim pay him the balance of $ 5,000, the victim decided to file a police report.

The police received the report on December 7, around 12:55 p.m.

Through ground investigations, officers from the Jurong Police Division managed to establish the identity of both men and arrested them.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the 35-year-old man had posed as a woman in order for the victim to send him compromising photos,” police said in a December 9 statement.

“The 49-year-old man was also allegedly involved in the case.”

Both men will be charged in court on December 10 with extortion, which carries a prison sentence of two to seven years and flogging.
