Videos and photos of a group of at least 10 people who were supposedly partying in a hotel suite appeared on social media, drawing criticism from the public and leading to an investigation into non-compliance with distancing regulations sure.
The New Paper understands that the alleged incident took place at a hotel in Resorts World Sentosa (RWS). The Chinese-language Shin Min Daily News reported that the meeting took place on Saturday night.
In the videos and photos, a group of at least 10 people can be seen drinking and dining in a hotel suite.
Social gatherings of more than five people are prohibited due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
A video posted on Instagram allegedly showed the group entering the hotel together.
Another image shows a row of glasses next to what appears to be a bottle of Japanese whiskey.
The Singapore Tourism Board is aware of the alleged incident, said its executive director for infrastructure planning and management, Chew Tiong Heng. “As the investigations are ongoing, we cannot share more details,” he told TNP.
Under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act of 2020, first-time offenders who fail to comply with safe driving measures face a fine of up to $ 10,000. Subsequent offenses can result in a fine of up to $ 20,000.
People can also be imprisoned for up to six months or up to a year for subsequent offenses.
A spokesperson for RWS said the resort requires all guests to check in at the hotel reception, and the mandatory secure management measures are highlighted and explained during check-in.
Guests are also reminded to observe the measurements through prominent signs in common areas such as elevators.
The spokesperson said: “We would like to remind all guests to strictly observe and adhere to all safe management measures for the health, safety and well-being of the Singaporean community.”
