A 22-year-old woman who disappeared for three days is said to have made up her disappearance story after leaving home to attend to personal matters.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, Ms Cai Yanling was reported missing since Thursday night (September 3), prompting her family to file an appeal in Little Guilin.

Ms. Cai was found lying on a path in the park Sunday night and taken to the hospital in an ambulance, her mother said.

Wanbao understands from various sources that Ms Cai was with friends during the three days she allegedly disappeared. Apparently, she was handling “personal affairs.”

However, his family thought he had disappeared and asked for help “everywhere.” They also went to the police on Saturday.

Worried about getting into trouble with her family, Ms Cai allegedly fabricated the story of how she lost consciousness in Little Guilin to hide her real whereabouts, Wanbao reported.

According to Wanbao, Ms. Cai had intentionally fallen to injure herself and was taken to the National University Hospital (NUH) by a friend. She sought treatment in the A&E department.

Ms. Cai’s family rushed to the hospital after being notified.

They were informed that Ms. Cai had been found drenched along a path and covered in leaves, with only her feet visible, Ms. Cai’s mother said.

Ms. Cai had a swollen face and multiple bruises on her body, her mother added.

When Ms. Cai regained consciousness, she seemed to be in a confused state of mind and asked her mother, “Why am I here?”

She also claimed that she only remembered getting out of a car near her home on Bukit Batok East Avenue 5, when she felt someone was “pushing her forward” and kept walking. However, she does not remember what happened next.

Ms. Cai’s mother said, “It didn’t seem right, so we didn’t ask any more.”

Although Ms. Cai was acquitted of any criminal offense after police investigations, the truth of her “disappearance” was discovered.

In response to media inquiries, NUH said that the patient’s health is the hospital’s top priority, but cannot comment further to respect patient confidentiality.

Ms. Cai’s father told Wanbao, “It is good that my daughter has returned. Everything else is not important. We will talk about it when there is an opportunity.”

He also said with regret that his family has been in crisis in recent days and the exact situation is unclear.
