SINGAPORE – A grant that helps Singaporeans and permanent residents who lost their jobs or suffered a significant loss of income due to the pandemic will run until the end of this year, but with revised eligibility criteria.

As of October 1, applicants for the Covid-19 Support Grant (CSG) must also not own more than one property. This is to ensure that support is provided to those with the fewest resources, the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) said in an update on Tuesday (September 22).

All those who are unemployed and applying for the CSG must also demonstrate job search or training efforts to qualify for the aid, MSF added in a statement.

The ministry said the government’s SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package helps workers affected by the economic impact of the pandemic to acquire work-related skills and abilities and access greater employment opportunities.

“In accordance with these efforts, all CSG applicants, whether first or second time applicants, who are unemployed must demonstrate job search or training efforts to qualify for CSG support,” MSF said.

The CSG, which provides up to $ 800 a month for three months, supports Singaporean employees and full-time or part-time permanent residents who lost their jobs, were placed on involuntary leave without pay, or suffered significant wage losses due to the pandemic. .

The CSG began in May, and applications for the grant were initially scheduled to close after September 30.

But in August, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat announced that the grant would run through December 31.

At that time, more than $ 90 million had been disbursed to more than 60,000 residents under the CSG.

In its update Tuesday, MSF said: “First-time applicants who meet the current eligibility criteria can continue to apply for CSG until 6pm on September 30.”

“The revised eligibility criteria will go into effect at 9 am on October 1,” he added.

Those who have already received the full CSG grant, or who are in the last month of assistance, can apply for an additional three months of support beginning October 1.
