14 bedroom cases detected by surveillance tests

Among the 20 cases residing in dormitories, six had previously been identified as previous case contacts and were evaluated during quarantine, the Health Ministry said.

The remaining 14 cases were detected through routine biweekly enumerated tests of workers living in dormitories.

In addition to the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, or smear, serological tests have also been done to determine if some of the cases are current or past infections.

“The results of the serological tests of two cases have been positive so far, indicating a probable past infection,” the Health Ministry said.

As of last Friday, about 5,700 workers who must undergo routine tests have yet to do so, said the Ministry of Manpower, the Economic Development Board, the Buildings and Construction Authority and the Promotion Board of the Health in a joint return the same day.

“This is a significant reduction from the 13,000 workers last week, and we would like to thank the employers for their cooperation,” authorities had said.

Of Singapore’s COVID-19 count, 54,353, or 94.3 percent, are foreign workers living in dormitories.
