Birthdays are supposed to be joyous occasions when family and friends get together to celebrate, but they were all days before Covid.

Under phase 2 regulations, social gatherings must be limited to five people, including birthday celebrations, to keep everyone safe during the pandemic, and even celebrities are not exempt from the rules.

Just today (December 23), local celebrities Terence Cao, Jeffrey Xu, and Shane Pow were found to have poked fun at social distancing measures at a birthday party in October, following an exposure by a Shin Min Daily News reader .

According to the reader, Jeffrey posted a story on Instagram on October 3 and while the photo was undated, there was evidence to show that it had been taken two months ago, the Chinese newspaper reported.

“One of the artists in the photo, Terence, sent a congratulatory message to wish Jeffrey a happy birthday and even posted a photo of them together,” the reader said. “I kept the link, but it expired because the post and photo had already been removed.”

The 53-year-old actor also sent a message on October 4 to wish Shane a happy birthday.

Terence and Shane could be seen wearing the same clothes as in the photo posted by Jeffrey the day before, indicating that they were taken on the same occasion.

In response to inquiries from AsiaOne, Mediacorp confirmed that the incident took place in October.

They spoke with the three artists involved and also found that a fourth, Sonia Chew, was also present at the celebration.

“They deeply regret their actions. They want to apologize for the mistake and assure everyone that this will not happen again,” Mediacorp said.

“We take this matter seriously. Safety is a priority. We constantly inform and remind our artists to adhere to safe management guidelines, both in their professional and personal capacities.”

Just yesterday (December 22), a reader also informed The New Paper about the wedding ceremony of Ah Boys To Men actor Maxi Lim, who is under investigation for violating Covid-19 rules.
