Two people were injured in Singapore on Sunday while watching the newly released movie “Tenet.” They were hit by debris when the roof partially collapsed at the Shaw Theaters NEX shopping center.

The incident occurred shortly before 5 pm, local time, in hall 6 of the multiplex cinema. It appears that a large section of the ventilation shaft went through the suspended ceiling and crashed into the moviegoers.

“It hurt because a piece of the ceiling hit my head and my heart was racing. It was really confusing because we thought the crash sounds were coming from the speakers behind us, ”a moviegoer named Venkat told local web publication Must Share News (MS News).

“Unfortunately, two clients were injured. They were taken care of quickly by our staff and then by paramedics who arrived. They were later taken to the hospital, ”a spokesperson for the mall told Channel News Asia.

Officers from the Singapore Civil Defense and the Singapore Police attended the scene after about 20 minutes. One of the injured was carried on a stretcher. Its status is currently unknown.

“Dear customers, Shaw Theaters nex will be closed until further notice. There will be no movie sessions during this period, ”said a notice posted on the Shaw Theaters website.

Shaw Theaters closure notice

“Our priority is to support our injured clients. We are also working with our owner (Gold Ridge Pte Ltd) and the relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances thoroughly. The theater will be closed until further notice, ”Shaw said.

“NEX is aware of the situation involving the collapse of the ceiling in one of the Shaw Theaters movie theaters within the mall. Authorities have been notified and we are currently working closely with our tenant Shaw Theaters to support ongoing investigations as well as the parties involved, ”said NEX.

The SCDF has yet to make a statement on any of its social media.
