Takumi Minamino admits he felt under pressure before his first goal of the Premier League season at Crystal Palace.

Minamino scored the first goal in a 7-0 win for Liverpool at Selhurst Park as the Reds recorded their biggest away win in the top flight.

The Japanese international’s goal came a year after the club confirmed his signing from Red Bull Salzburg.

And the 25-year-old revealed that he was eager to end his top flight drought before his clever finish at the Eagles hammering.

“When Sadio passed the ball to me, I felt like an opponent was coming to block me,” Minamino told Liverpoolfc.com.

“But from there, I didn’t have time to think, I just trusted my feelings and shot.

“A goal in the Premier League was what I really wanted to achieve.

“Instead of being happy about it, I think it took longer than I wanted. But I’m happy that I can contribute to the team’s victory.

“I wouldn’t say I was disappointed in myself, but I always wanted to score as soon as possible. I also felt some pressure about it.

“I am happy to have finally scored, but I have only scored once so I will work hard to score more.”

On a historic day for the champions, the 7-0 victory was also the biggest Minamino has participated in in his professional career.

He added: “I have not experienced such a big win since turning pro. So I am happy to contribute to such a special victory,

“Since we were able to win that match 7-0, I think our attack [play] it worked really well, and I was feeling it myself.

“Personally, throughout the game, [not] all I did was work. I know there is room for improvement.

“I need to work hard to improve myself and I know that I can improve.”
