The famous Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Japan is temporarily closed, but fans can visit its website for updates and the YouTube channel to catch a glimpse of what’s going on behind closed doors.

In a recent video, we are led through the museum doors to look up at the ceiling, where a sun with bright yellow rays smiles on all visitors.

The fruit-laden foliage spreads out into the blue sky and if your eyes are sharp enough, you will see Kiki on his broom (from Hayiki’s Miyazaki Kiki Delivery Service 1989), Nausicaa on his glider (from Nausicaa and Valley of Wind 1984), The Catbus (from My Neighbor Tototo 1988) and various other beloved characters from the famous films by animation studio Studio Ghibli.

In another video, we have a rare glimpse of what the museum looks like at night.

And in the third, we have a quick tour of a first-floor room called Where A Film Is Born, set up to look like someone was drawing on their desk just moments ago.

The room, which belongs to a boy who dreams of making his own movie, is full of toys and books. Illustrations and sketches cover the walls, a place where ideas and inspiration meet pen and paper.

This museum, which first opened to the public in October 2011, was designed by Studio Ghibli’s own director, Miyazaki.

The short videos on her YouTube channel seem like a new initiative from the museum, with one video uploaded every week so far.

Tickets for the Ghibli Museum are often in high demand and advance reservations are needed, so we hope to see more new videos in the coming weeks.

Studio Ghibli has also released a series of eight different backgrounds that you can download for free to use in your virtual meetings in these times of pandemic.

The eight backgrounds, which you can download here, are taken from scenes from Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, Castle In The Sky, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo, Arrietty, and The Tale of The Princess Kaguya.
