SINGAPORE – Surbana Jurong’s board of directors accepted the resignation of Mr. Liew Mun Leong as president, but did not name a successor to the position.
In a statement on Friday night (September 11), the consulting firm’s group executive director, Wong Heang Fine, said: “While the change in the presidency has occurred unexpectedly, the board, management and Surbana Jurong’s global workforce have the collective determination to carry on business as usual.
“Everything we have accomplished thus far serves as a solid foundation to advance our work as a technical platform to create a smart, sustainable and resilient built environment.”
He added that Surbana Jurong remains focused on its clients and supporting them in their plans for a post-Covid-19 future.
Liew, 74, resigned from his positions at Surbana Jurong and three other organizations on Thursday after the High Court acquitted his former maid of theft and questioned his motivation for filing a police report against him, sparking a backlash. online.
He stepped down as Chairman of Changi Airport Group and Surbana Jurong, and from his positions as senior international business advisor at Singapore investment firm Temasek and as a board member of the Temasek Foundation.
In announcing his decision to “advance” his retirement, Mr. Liew said at the time that he did not want his current situation to be a distraction to the organizations’ respective boards, management and staff amid their many critical priorities.
When asked on Friday who would succeed Liew, Surbana said he would make an announcement in due course.
In its statement on Friday night, Surbana Jurong paid tribute to the contributions made to the firm by Liew, who has been its founding president since joining it in 2015.
“Under his leadership, Surbana Jurong made a series of transformative acquisitions to forge an integrated platform of technical consulting services with a comprehensive value proposition for the built environment,” he said, adding that he had encouraged Surbana Jurong’s foray into fields of non-traditional consulting. allowing you to form “valuable partnerships” for project investments in the region.
“Leveraging the relationships he built over decades with partners around the world, Mr. Liew paved the way for Surbana Jurong to expand its global presence.
“As a result, since its formation, the Group has increased its revenue fivefold, more than half of which is derived from business outside of Singapore,” the firm said.
Apart from this, Surbana Jurong said that Mr. Liew was “committed to creating talent” and had gone to great lengths to strengthen his management, even going as far as personally interviewing potential top management candidates.
“He will always be remembered for the business and leadership conferences he gave to staff and the Sunday emails he spent time writing, a vehicle to share his wealth of knowledge and experience,” said Surbana Jurong.
