BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (THE STAR / ASIA NEWS NETWORK) – A son of the Sultan of Brunei, Prince Haji Abdul Azim, died on Saturday (October 24).

He was 38 years old.

The state broadcaster of Brunei Radio Television Brunei reported the death in an official statement and also the Borneo Bulletin.

“Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah’s son, Prince Hj Abdul Azim, passed away on Rabi ul awal 17 (October 24) at 10:08 am local time.

“The funeral will take place during Asr prayers (late noon) tonight,” the announcement said.

The cause of death was not specified.

Fourth in line to succeed the Brunei throne, Prince Abdul Azim was the second prince of Sultan Hassanal.

According to news reports, a Brunei source said the prince had been in the hospital for a while.

The source said Brunei is in mourning for seven days.

The instruction sent to citizens, according to local reports, reads: “Muslim women should wear white tudung or headscarves, and non-Muslims should wear a 3-inch wide white armband.”

On Twitter, many people shared their pain and condolences upon hearing the news.

Born in Bandar Seri Begawan on July 29, 1982, Prince Abdul Azim studied at the International School Brunei, Raffles Institution, and Oxford Brookes University.

According to the Borneo Bulletin newspaper, the late prince was buried in the capital’s Royal Mausoleum on Saturday.
